Judicial review conference

The Round Hall Judicial Review Conference 2010 is on Saturday, November 13th, at the Royal College of Physicians, Kildare Street, Dublin 2, from 9am-1.30pm.

Speakers are: James O'Reilly SC, Anthony Collins SC, Conleth Bradley SC, Micheál P O'Higgins SC and Michael Lynn BL. The topics include "Error of fact", a review of landmark Superior Court cases, judicial review of criminal law cases, the European Arrest Warrant, and whether breaches of the European Convention on Human Rights are ultra vires. It costs €375.

Martin to give talk on human rights

The fifth annual human rights lecture organised by the Irish Human Rights Commission will be given by Minister for Foreign Affairs Micheál Martin on Wednesday at 7pm in the National Gallery of Ireland, Dublin.

The lecture will be opened by Dr Maurice Manning, president of the IHRC, and closed by Éamonn Mac Aodha, its chief executive.

Dave Ellis memorial lecture

The fourth annual Dave Ellis memorial lecture will be delivered by Michael Mansfield QC on Tuesday, November 23rd, at the Pillar room of the Rotunda Hospital, Parnell Square, Dublin, at 6pm.

Discussion on intellectual property

A conference on "Recent Developments in Intellectual Property Law" will take place on November 23rd in the D4 Berkeley Hotel, Pembroke Road, Ballsbridge, Dublin, from 5.30pm-7.30pm.

Speakers include Shane Smyth, Linda Scales, Michael Lucey and Gerard Kelly. Patricia McGovern of DFMG will chair the conference.

It costs €95 and refreshments will be served afterwards.

Meanwhile, a new journal Irish Intellectual Property Quarterly, edited by barrister Helen Johnson, has been launched. Published four times a year, it costs €325 plus 13.5% VAT.

Fitzpatrick address on legal biography

James McGuire MRIA will deliver the 23rd lecture in the Fitzpatrick series on "Law as a field of interest in the Dictionary of Irish Biography" on Thursday at Dublin City Library and Archive, Pearse Street, at 6pm. The lecture will be chaired by Mr Justice Roderick Murphy.
