Judge Frank O'Donnell retires

Judge Frank O’Donnell has just retired as a judge of the Circuit Court having served there since May 1995.

Judge O’Donnell, along with Judge John Buckley and Judge Michael White, were pioneers as they were the first solicitors to be appointed to the Circuit Court following enabling legislation.

From Burtonport, Co Donegal, Judge O’Donnell qualified as a solicitor in 1964. He obtained an LLM from Harvard two years later and practised for a number of years in Chicago before returning to Ireland.

He was president of the Law Society in 1984.

ISEL forum on procurement law

An ISEL forum takes place this evening at 6.30pm in European Union House, Dawson Street, Dublin, on innovation in public procurement.

Speakers include Jennifer Skilbeck of Monckton Chambers, Sarah Johnson, a partner with Philip Lee, and barrister Joseph Dalby.

The forum will be chaired by Vincent Campbell, director of the National Procurement Service in the OPW.

The event is free to ISEL members and costs €20 to non-members.

LLM in human rights

UCC has just announced a new LLM programme on International Human Rights Law and Public Policy.

The programme includes a core international human rights clinic module. Students will benefit from a series of guest seminars with representatives of civil society, government, international human rights bodies and the world of legal practice.
