The Royal Irish Academy is electing two academic lawyers as members this year – Prof Dermot Walsh of the Centre for Criminal Justice in the University of Limerick, and Prof Imelda Maher, Professor of European Law at University College Dublin.

Membership is the highest academic honour in Ireland. Its other lawyer members include Prof William Schabas of NUI Galway, Prof John Morison of Queen’s University Belfast, Prof Caroline Fennell of University College Cork and former attorney general Dermot Gleeson.
