Gardaí seek witnesses to Tipperary traffic incident

Worker killed in Wicklow while driver left scene of accident after hitting two women in Tipperary

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to an incident in which two women were struck by a van in Tipperary on Monday evening.

A man in his 60s struck by a car while carrying out road works in Co Wicklow has died.

The incident occurred on the R752 at Milltown South, Rathnew, Co Wicklow on Monday morning.

At approximately 8:05am the deceased, who was in his mid-60s suffered serious injury, when the collision occurred. He was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital in a critical condition but died on Tuesday. The driver of the vehicle was uninjured.

The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) was notified and attended the scene due to the incident being a workplace accident. The scene was also preserved for Garda Forensic Collision Investigators to conduct an examination.

Gardaí have appealed for anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward. Any road-users who were travelling on the R752 at Milltown South between 7.45am and 8.15am on the morning and who may have dash-cam footage is particularly asked to make contact.

In a separate incident in Kerry on Tuesday night, a crash has left a motorcyclist in a serious condition in hospital.

The man in his 30s was in a collision with a car at Listry Bridge, on the R563 between Killarney and Milltown at about 8pm. He was taken to University Hospital Kerry while the scene was preserved for examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.

Traffic approaching from Killarney is diverted at Faha Cross and from Milltown at Listry Cross.

Gardaí are asking witnesses or anyone in the area with dash-cam footage to make contact with Killarney garda station at (064) 667 1160.

Meanwhile, Gardaí are also appealing for witnesses of a collision in which the driver of a vehicle ran away after hitting two women out walking before crashing into a nearby ditch.

The hit-and-run occurred in the townland of Tinvane, Carrick-On-Suir, Tipperary at about 9pm on Monday.

The two women, aged in their 60s and 70s, were hit by the van which then hit the ditch and came to a stop. At this point, gardaí said, the driver of the vehicle got out and ran away from the scene in the direction of the Piltown Road.

The women were taken to Waterford Hospital by ambulance where they were treated for injuries, described as non-life threatening.

Gardaí have issued an appeal for witnesses and have asked anyone who was in the area or travelling in the townland of Tinvane, Carrick-On-Suir at the time of the collision or prior to it, and who can assist with any information, to make contact.

They are particularly appealing to motorists with dash-cam footage of the incident to make it available to them.
