Gardaí in Co Offaly have seized around €100,000 worth of cannabis as part of a newly launched campaign against street-level drug dealing.

The search was carried out as part of Operation Tara, which aims to crack down on low-level dealing around the country using local drugs units.

On Thursday, gardaí in Tullamore obtained a warrant for a house in the town. During a subsequent search operation, officers found 5kg of cannabis, worth about €100,000.

A man in his 40s was arrested at the scene and brought to Tullamore Garda Station for questioning. He can be held for up to 24 hours.
