Gardaí are appealing for witnesses relating to the death of a young man in south Dublin city on Sunday morning.

The death is being treated as a tragic accident but investigators are anxious to speak to anyone who was in the Dolphin’s Barn area between 2am and 5am.

The body of the man, who was aged in his 20s, was discovered by the Grand Canal on Sunday afternoon.

He was removed to the Dublin City Mortuary where a postmortem was carried out. The man was found under a bridge on the canal. It is understood he was not a rough sleeper.

“Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have been in the Dolphin’s Barn area, particularly along the Grand Canal, between the hours of 2am and 5am on the 26th [of] September, 2021, to come forward,” the Garda said in a statement.

“Any road users who were travelling at the time with camera footage are asked to make this available to Gardaí.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Crumlin Garda station on 01 666 6200*, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.”
