The gun used in last month's murder of Mr Richard Jameson, the alleged leader of the UVF in Portadown, was found three days later in a car in Cookstown, the High Court in Belfast heard yesterday. The disclosure was made during a bail application by the car owner, Mr Robert Samuel Scott (37), from Old Town Street, Cookstown, who is charged with possessing the weapon with intent to endanger life.
A DPP lawyer said police found the gun wrapped in a tea cloth in the car parked in a yard at the rear of Mr Scott's house. Mr Scott's lawyer said he denied all knowledge of the gun and said his fingerprints were not found on it. Mr Justice Coghlin said Mr Jameson's death was a political murder connected with terrorism and the case was too serious to grant bail.
