Alex Corretja punished new father Andrei Pavel in just 11 minutes today to ease into his third French Open semi-final.

The Spaniard won 7-6 7-5 7-5 against an opponent who had driven hundreds of kilometres to attend the birth of his son in Germany yesterday before rushing back to Paris to finish the match which the pair had started on Tuesday.

The match had been stopped by poor light at 4-5 in the third set on Tuesday and could not go ahead yesterday because of violent storms.

Corretja won his two previous semi-finals, in 1998 and last year, before losing in the final to Carlos Moya and Gustavo Kuerten. He will meet compatriot Albert Costa in the last four.
