The astonishingly talented winner of the 1998 RTE Musician of the Future Competition, Cora Venus Lunny, has been as absent from the concert platform in Ireland this year as she was active on it last year. Next Wednesday, however, the young violinist is giving a concert in Galway, in partnership with John Lenehan, the most experienced partner she'll have appeared on an Irish platform with. Last year, she was billed at Galway Arts Festival to play a work by Rob Canning, winner of the composer section of the RTE competition. She didn't play it. This time, there's another work by a living composer in the list of repertoire for Galway - a Reve des Nuits Vitre by one CV Lunny, something that should have a better chance of being played on the night than the piece by the unfortunate Mr Canning.
