Gardaí are investigating an incident in which a Nigerian prisoner was stabbed three times in Mountjoy Prison this afternoon.
Goodwill Udechukwu, who was jailed yesterday for bludgeoning his wife to death with a lump hammer, was set upon by a small group of prisoners at around 3.50pm in the prison's D wing.
He was stabbed twice in the back and once above the eye.
Udechukwu was able to walk to the ambulance which took him to the Mater Hospital.
