The Iveagh Gardens, which border the National Concert Hall site in Dublin, will be unaffected by the proposed €100 million plan for a new auditorium.

The Office of Public Works (OPW) owns the public park, which is just off Harcourt Street and behind the concert hall site.

A spokeswoman for the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht said that as the OPW owned the gardens there would be no adverse effects caused by the construction.

The development will include a new auditorium when UCD moves its medicine and engineering faculties from Earlsfort Terrace.

The Iveagh Gardens are among the least known of Dublin's parks and gardens. They were designed by Ninian Niven in 1863 and include a rustic grotto, cascade, fountains, maze, rosarium, archery grounds, wilderness and woodlands. An ongoing programme of restoration is taking place.
