It was a busy week for Alternative Entertainment, the community arts group, as it celebrated two CDs and a new exhibition while unveiling the autumn programme. On Monday night, John Quearney and Liam Kennedy unleashed their albums to the accompaniment of speeches by the Arts Council's Jane Dillon Byrne, and music by the whooping Tallifornia Mandolin Band.
Later in the week, an exhibition entitled Drug Free Zone in the Gallery of Photography was greeted enthusiastically by Tony Gregory TD. Award-winning photographer Derek Speirs was showing his work along with Pete Smyth and Tony O'Shea. Jazz guitarists Louis Stewart and Hugh Buckley, cousin of saxaphonist Richie Buckley, will also be lending their services to the group when they give a recital and master class next month.
