Gardaí are investigating a fire at a Protestant church in Castletownbere, Co Cork last night.

Gardaí are investigating a fire at a Protestant church in Castletownbere, Co Cork last night.

The fire, which was discovered at 9.30 p.m., caused damage to the roof of a porch at St Peter's Church of Ireland in the town. The building will be out of commission for some time.

A Garda spokesman could not confirm the incident was arson at this stage, but said officers were following "a definite line of inquiry".

The scene has been preserved for technical examination.
