Clinton urged to stay an extra day

President Clinton is being advised to spend an extra day in the Limerick area next month and take in a second round of golf. Sources said Mr Clinton will give an address at the University of Limerick on September 4th and later play golf in Ballybunion.

His golf partners are expected to be the former minister for foreign affairs Mr Dick Spring, the Minister for Finance, Mr McCreevy, and the president of the club, Mr Denis Brosnan, who is chairman of the Kerry Group.

Mr Clinton will stay at Adare Manor Hotel, which is owned by the Kane family of New Jersey, prominent contributors to Mr Clinton's Democratic Party. Mr Stephen Quinn, general manager of Adare Manor, declined to say if Mr Clinton would stay in the hotel.

It is understood the US embassy in Dublin and the White House wish to keep his arrangements secret. If Mr Clinton's plans permit, he will spend an extra day in Adare and play a round of golf on the hotel's course.
