SITPU members among Cityjet baggage handling staff at Dublin Airport announced this evening that will begin industrial action at midnight over their ongoing pay dispute.

The union said 92 per cent of its members involved voted in favour of the action following a refusal by Cityjet management to make "any meaningful offer" on pay at the Labour Relations Commission this afternoon.

Mr Dermot O’Loughlin of SIPTU said Cityjet handling staff are paid 33 per cent less than employees of other companies performing similar work.

"Cityjet Handling has already begun the process of importing labour from France to undermine our members’ campaign for fair pay," he claimed, adding that strike action was now looking "inevitable".
