LONDON - The British Methodist Church announced yesterday that it had sold its shares in the French oil company Total "owing to concerns about its operations in Burma" and the human rights record of that country.

"The Methodist Church is concerned that Total appears to be increasing its involvement in Burma despite the advocacy of trade sanctions against the country by both the European Commission and the US government."
