Tomorrow, the Feast of Pentecost, the Bishop of Meath and Kildare, Dr Richard Clarke, will celebrate the Eucharist and preach at the opening of the United Society for the Propagation of the Gospel's (USPG) international conference in Maynooth.

The conference , entitled "Venture Fourth" to mark the beginning of its fourth century of activity, is intended as an opportunity for USPG to listen to the voice of the worldwide church as it seeks ways in which it should work in the 21st century.

USPG is one of the leading Anglican societies. It was founded in 1965 with the amalgamation of the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel and the Anglican Universities Mission to Central Africa, but traces its roots to the establishment of SPG in 1791.

Today the Church of Ireland Men's Society will have its annual outing. This year, the society will visit Downpatrick where there will be a celebration of the Eucharist in Down Cathedral, a talk on the history of the cathedral and a visit to the St Patrick's Centre.
