Imagine Eyre Square in Galway with a zoo with no cages, a chocolate volcano, a playground with a giant swing, an escalator to nowhere, and a Leaning Tower of Pizza.
While in reality the revamp of the square is on hold, with the main contractor quitting early this summer, the city's children have been busy creating their own imaginary Galway.
Twelve young artists/architects aged between five and 10 have designed and built a model of their dream city after going through tough negotiations with their own "planning board".
Artists Maeve Curtis and Síbeal Ní Chuímín facilitated the four morning workshops at the Galway Arts Centre during which the children designed their imaginary city - a task they took very seriously indeed.
Each child first drew a picture of their own city, which they had to try to "sell" to the tough planning board.
An enormous map was drawn up and a model of the city was created by the children.
The work is being exhibited all this week until Saturday, August 20th, on the top floor of the centre in Dominick Street, Galway.
