London - Proposals for thousands of new childcare centres along with big cash boosts for working and non-working parents have been unveiled in a major study published yesterday in Britain.

Between 8,000 and 10,000 new children's centres - one to every two or three schools - would be created in the UK under plans put forward by the Childcare Commission. The centres, catering for children up to 16 years old, would offer nurseries, playgroups, out-of-school clubs and childminder networks as well as childcare information to parents.
