Kaizer Chiefs' African Cup Winners Cup match scheduled for Sunday at Ellis Park has been postponed by 72 hours, the Confederation of African Football announced today.
The move comes after 43 people died at the Johannesburg stadium yesterday during Chiefs' league match against arch-rivals Orlando Pirates.
The Chiefs' first-round, second-leg game against Stade Tamponnaise of Reunion will be played in Johannesburg on Wednesday following a request by South African officials.
CAF secretary-general Mustapha Fahmy said because the visiting team from Reunion had already arrived in South Africa the match could not be put off any longer.
"In accordance with our statutes we have postponed the game by 72 hours and it must take place on Wednesday," he said.
South African officials are set to cancel all weekend league matches, said Danny Jordaan, the South African Football Association's chief executive officer.
