The case of the inadvertent charity cash donation found in a pair of curtains has drawn to a close.
The owner of a "large sum" of money, found inside a pair of curtains donated to children’s charity Barnardos on Wednesday, has reclaimed her cash.
The woman returned to the charity shop in Rathmines, Dublin, today to collect her money .
The charity could not disclose the exact sum or comment on suggestions that it was in the order of several thousand euro. The woman was immediately recognised by the shop workers and was able to describe the unusual pattern of the donated curtains.
The charity said it was "completely satisfied" that she is the "rightful owner" of the cash.
"The lady told us that she learned of our appeal when watching TV and quickly realised what had happened," Colette Miller, manager of Barnardos’ seven shops said.
Several other people had contacted the charity to claim the curtains. However the woman’s claim was the only one it had taken seriously, a charity spokeswoman said.
The "large sum" of cash was found, to the surprise of a shop volunteer, in a money bag which was pinned inside the lining of the curtains.
The charity made the public appeal for the woman to come forward after yesterday's discovery as it felt the donor had not intended to make a cash donation
The charity was "overwhelmed" with the public interest in its appeal.
The woman asked the charity to protect her anonymity Ms Miller said.
Barnardos said demand for low-cost quality clothes and household items in its seven shops is growing. However donations have declined by 20 to 50 per cent in some of its shops.
The shops help to raise funds for its work with more than 6000 children and families in Ireland.
