A Channel 4-led consortium has won the new national digital radio licence in the United Kingdom.
The auction has provided a shot in the arm for digital audio broadcasting (DAB) and is seen as a critical point in UK radio's move from analogue broadcasting to digital.
Channel 4 is committed to spending £4.5 million marketing DAB technology over the next three years and a further £25 million to promote the 10 national radio channels and the "wide selection" of podcasts it plans to offer.
