Celestial Gold capped a great day for the Martin Pipe team with a game victory in the Paddy Power Gold Cup at Cheltenham today.
The 12-1 shot was completing a superb 99-1 treble for the trainer, owner David Johnson and jockey Timmy Murphy.
Leading after the second-last, Celestial Gold stormed up the hill to beat Thisthatandtother (13-2) by a length and three-quarters, with 3-1 favourite Monkerhostin five lengths further away third.
The novice Ollie Magern set a strong pace with Farmer Jack hot on his heels and Better Days and Kelrev leading the chasing pack.
There was little change in the order until the field powered down the hill with three fences to jump.
Ollie Magern finally gave way at the second-last, where the tiring Farmer Jack took a nasty tumble.
This was where Murphy took up the running, having given Celestial Gold a patient ride from the rear.
Although Thisthatandtother did his best to close the gap, Celestial Gold always held the upper hand on the run to the line.
It was Murphy's first success in the race, but it was the seventh for Pipe, and Johnson's fifth.
The in-form team had earlier struck with Over The Creek (9-4) and Vodka Bleu (11-8).
Murphy said: "We were just worried about the trip. But they went a real good gallop and he settled really well.
"To be fair to him, he's as tough as old boots and he just galloped to the line."
Asked about the Pipe-Johnson team's success at the meeting so far, he added: "Fantastic. Just a few teething problems yesterday, but today you can't ask for anything better."
