Celebrity agent Colin Angus was killed in a car crash in Northern Ireland today.

The 40-year-old, whose clients include model Alex Best and actor Patrick Mower, died when his sports car crashed off a country road in Co Down at around 4am.

He was heading home to the seaside town of Donaghadee when his silver Mazda MX5 left the Craigantlet Road as it cut through Cairn Wood Forest outside Newtownards.

Police said no other vehicle was involved in the crash and Mr Angus was alone in the two-seater car.

Mr Angus was the 102nd person to die on the province's roads so far this year. By the same time last year the toll was 104.

The Craigantlet Road has claimed many lives over the years, including Michelin-starred celebrity chef Robbie Millar, who also died in an early- morning crash as he headed towards his Co Down home in 2005.

Mr Angus's company, Colin Angus Promotions, lists several Northern Ireland BBC and UTV presenters as clients, including news anchors Lynda Bryans and David Dunseith.

TV vet Dr Scott Millar and Heartbeat and Cops actor and comedian Jack Marsden are also represented by the agency.

Local North Down MLA Alex Easton and Donaghadee councillor Jonathan Bell expressed their deep sympathy to the Angus family.

"The road death on the Craigantlet Road in the early hours of the morning had caused a deep sadness locally," said the Democratic Unionist representatives in a joint statement

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family circle. This road has had a number of fatalities and we will review road safety with the Road Service.

"As the family grieve this morning, many throughout the community will be remembering them and praying for them at this difficult time."

Meanwhile, a 40-year-old motorcyclist was taken to hospital after a crash in Derry today.

He was reported by police to have been seriously injured in a collision with a car on the Glengalliagh Road mid-morning.

The driver of the car, a man in his 20s, was arrested.
