The Catholic Church has appointed Monsignor John Fleming to the post of Bishop of Killala.
Monsignor Fleming, from Ardpatrick, Co Limerick, is the former rector of the Irish College in Rome.
His appointment came after the current bishop, Dr Thomas Finnegan, decided to retire. Dr Finnegan (76) has been in the post since 1987.
