Nicosia - Convicted Venezuelan urban guerrilla Ilich Ramirez Sanchez, better known as Carlos the Jackal, said he led the commando raid in which OPEC ministers were taken hostage in 1975. He made the comment in an interview to be published today by the Beirut-based Arab weekly Al-Wasat.
Carlos (51) has been confined to a high security prison in Paris since his 1997 sentence to life imprisonment for killing two French investigators and their Lebanese informer in Paris in 1975.
He said the attack was originally "the idea of an Arab head of state" whose identity he refused to reveal.
