Some of the world’s top companies have been drafted in by the Government to help lure more foreign businesses to Ireland, it was revealed today.

A €2 million advertising blitz is being rolled out in the United States with contributions from firms already located here like Google and Facebook.

Senior executives from the global companies will speak about the benefits of investing in Ireland for ads aired on both television and the internet. Posters will be put up at airports while further advertisements will be placed in newspapers and magazines.

Unveiling the campaign Tánaiste Mary Coughlan said: “We have new ambassadors for Ireland, who are putting forward their message about why Ireland is a good place to do business, why we have such a business-like acumen in this country and as a consequence why they are doing business here.

“My aspiration for this through the campaign is that we will have people saying ‘Yes, Ireland is keen to do business’ and they’re out there fighting for that competition.”

The first round of television ads will air on the US CNBC network on Sunday, followed by a print campaign in the Wall Street Journal the next day. They will also appear on various websites including the New York Times, Financial Times and Bloomberg.

The print ads show a scribbled image of Ireland with various slogans above it depending on the company lending its name. Businesses include Facebook, Google, Citi, pharmaceutical giant Merck and Boston Scientific.

IDA Ireland, which devised the campaign, said it will run for six months in the US with the possibility of being expanded into Germany, France and the UK.
