Call to retain Groceries Order

The Minister for Enterprise and Employment must retain the Groceries Order for at least two years following the Quinnsworth takeover by Tesco, RGDATA said yesterday. The association, which represents 7,000 family grocers, said this would allow time in which current and potential grocery developments could be assessed.

Mr Michael Campbell, its director general, said the British supermarket chain "would squeeze the Irish operation slowly but consistently to boost the profit performance".
