LONDON - The British Lord Chancellor, Lord Mackay of Clashfern, yesterday called for marriage to be promoted in a "positive, but realistic" way.

He said the government could take a lead by "showing a greater awareness of the impact of all policies on marriage and family life, not just those that relate directly to these matters". Lord Mackay was speaking at an event to mark National Marriage Week.
