Partygoers were today urged to take personal responsibility for their drinking to ensure a safe New Year for all.
The drinks industry awareness group, Mature Enjoyment of Alcohol in Society (Meas), called on revellers to respect those at work and plan ahead to get home.
Meas has highlighted the unacceptable impact of drunken behaviour on innocent parties including A&E nurses, neighbours, people out alone, shop workers and taxi drivers.
"It is important that partygoers take personal responsibility for their drinking and acknowledge the effect their celebrations can have on others such as neighbours or those working," Meas chief executive Fionnuala Sheehan said.
The campaign includes posters depicting an A&E nurse stating: "In A&E 28% of people I treat have alcohol-related injuries ... I've had enough."
The awareness programme is also supported by the Irish Taxi Drivers' Federation (ITDF).
ITDF president John Ussher added: "There are over 20,000 taxis on the streets of Ireland and most taxi drivers have had to scrub vomit off their back seats, all because people don't know when they've had enough to drink."
The group's website www.drinkaware.ie http://www.drinkaware.ie/ includes details of public transport night services over the New Year and a link to a list of pubs and clubs offering drivers free soft drinks.
"We would encourage people going out on New Year's Eve to consider public transport and taxi options before heading out," Ms Sheehan added.
Meas, a registered charity, was established in 2002 by the drinks industry to promote social responsibility and moderate consumption of alcohol.
