Strasbourg - The mother of the murdered Liverpool toddler, James Bulger, yesterday spoke of her pleasure at being granted permission to give her views at a European Court of Human Rights hearing to decide whether his killers received a fair trial, writes Rachel Donnelly.

In an unprecedented legal move, lawyers acting for Mrs Denise Fergus and her former husband, Mr Ralph Bulger, were allowed to address the court on the views of victims.

The European Court of Human Rights has been asked to decide whether Robert Thompson and Jon Venables, both now 16, were denied a fair trial when they were tried and convicted of murder at Preston Crown Court in 1993.
