In a two-day outbreak of violence, two brothers left a man scarred for life, broke a dentist's wrist in a road rage attack, and caused £6,000 damage to property, Dublin Circuit Criminal Court was told yesterday.

Alan Maloney (20) and David Maloney (22), of Forrest Drive, Ringswood Heights, Tallaght, pleaded guilty to assault causing serious harm and to causing criminal damage on November 28th and November 30th, 1997. Judge Frank O'Donnell adjourned sentence to June 10th.

Garda Eddie McBride said the dentist, Mr James Walsh, was driving to his clinic in Clondalkin when a van swerved close to his car. Mr Walsh beeped his horn. Later, he stopped to buy a newspaper and the van pulled up nearby. Alan Maloney broke Mr Walsh's wrist with a pliers before chasing him into a shop. Mr Walsh tried to defend himself with a sweeping brush but received a cut to the chest from a screwdriver. The other man set upon his car, causing £5,000 damage.
