THE president of the University of Limerick, Dr Edward Walsh, opened an exhibition of art, craft and design work by junior and senior cycle students at the Hugh Lane Gallery on Thursday. Co sponsored by the ESB and NCAD as part of their 250th birthday celebrations, the show was full of truly stunning examples of work. (No wonder there were so many proud parents strutting about.)

Niamh O'Brien of Scoil Mhuire in Longford pieced together a striking lightning mosaic worthy of Design Yard but like her schoolmates, only learned on the day of the opening that her work had been selected. Another eye catching work was an illuminated hand sculpture in plaster and wire by Damien Reed of St Peter's in Dunboyne. Here's to the NCAD students of tomorrow.
