The Belfast trial of three Lurgan men accused of murdering Lurgan schoolboy Gavin Malcolm is to continue despite the refusal of chief witness Thomas Haggan to give evidence.

Announcing his decision, Mr Justice McCollum postponed dealing with the contempt of court by Crown witness Haggan (19), who is serving in definite detention for his part in the murder of the 15 year old schoolboy in April 1994.

He told a lawyer for Haggan he would deal with the issue at the end of the trial of Lurgan men RIR private Mr Jason Chittick (22), of Pines Park; Mr Keith Brown (23), of Ashleigh Crescent, and Mr William Turkington (18), of Munroe Avenue.

They each deny beating the schoolboy unconscious and throwing him to his death from a block of flats in the Mourneview Estate area of Lurgan early on April 8th, 1994. The trial has been adjourned until today.
