A BOUNCER kicked in the door of a ladies lavatory at a night club and left a woman permanently scarred, Dublin Circuit Civil Court was told.
Ms Niamh Cummins (27), of Clogher Road, Crumlin, Dublin, told Judge Raymond Groarke the door hit her on the face and injured her left eye.
She told her counsel, Mr Noel Cosgrove, she had been at a disco in Chichi's nightclub at the Harcourt Hotel on St Patrick's night in 1995. When she went to the toilets the lights were out in the area and she was told by a bouncer she could not use them.
Later she had gone in when no one was there and seconds later the toilet door was kicked in. The door hit her on the left side of her face and she became bruised and bled.
Mr Cosgrove said medical reports revealed she had been left with a scar which would most likely be permanent.
Witnesses for Olema Consultants, trading as the Harcourt Hotel, denied the toilet door had been kicked or pushed in. One witness said she had made no complaint on the night. Judge Groarke, awarding Ms Cummins £9,000 damages, said the evidence of the head doorman at Chichi's and that of the bouncer was irreconcilable. He was satisfied Ms Cummins had complained at the time.
