Army bomb disposal units have made safe a viable device in Co Louth overnight.

The bomb was discovered in Castlebellingham early this morning. The Army team was on the scene at 3.00am and carried out a controlled explosion. The all-clear was given at 3.30am.

Separately, a number of bags containing bomb parts and imitation weapons were discovered in St Anne’s Park in Raheny yesterday evening. The Army declared the scene safe at 7.15pm.

A Defence Forces spokesman said the parts could have been used to make a viable device.

The items were handed over to the gardaí for investigation.

Gardaí are today continuing their investigation into a pipe bomb attack on an estate agents’ office in Roscommon town yesterday morning. The device was thrown through a window of the preimises in Stone Court, Castle Street, some time between 6am and 7am, causing minor damage.

Gardaí called in the Army after receiving reports that a second explosive device was in the building. The area was evacuated and sealed off while the search was carried out.

No further devices were found, but the bomb disposal team confirmed the original device was viable.

Gardaí are asking anyone who may have witnessed anything suspicious in the area to come forward.
