Three precautionary water boil notices were issued in Limerick yesterday evening over fears that drinking water may be contaminated after heavy rainfall in the county on Thursday.

Limerick County Council has issued the alert on the advice of the Health Service Executive, as a precautionary measure pending further investigation.

The notice has been issued to people whose water supply is connected via the Ardagh Water Scheme, serving Ardagh village and the surrounding area; the Carrigeen Water Scheme serving the Carrigeen area near Croom; and the Tobergal water source for the Feohanagh-Castlemahon Group Water Scheme, serving Broadford, Drumcollogher and surrounding areas.

The council said it would issue updates on lcc.ie.
