The body of a Dublin woman who was drowned last week in Ecuador is expected to be brought home within eight to 10 days.

Ms Aideen Redmond's body was found by her mother, May, on Wednesday, just 1 km from where she was swept away by strong currents while swimming with a friend in Zamora.

The 23-year-old Dublin woman had been on holiday in Ecuador. Her mother, using binoculars, had spotted her body while walking the river bank in Podocartus National Park with her son, James.

Yesterday a Department of Foreign Affairs spokesman said the repatriation of the body was expected to take eight to 10 days. Mr Richard Lacy, the Irish consul in Ecuador, is making the arrangements.
