British Prime Minister Tony Blair will travel to Kuwait today to thank it for its support during the Iraq war, before briefly entering Iraq tomorrow to visit British troops stationed there.

News of the visit was confirmed by Mr Blair's office after it was announced by Kuwait's official news agency KUNA.

Although the officials would not give his destination in Iraq, Mr Blair was presumed to be travelling to the southern city of Basra where British troops have been concentrated.

The visits to Kuwait and Iraq begin a hectic foreign schedule for Mr Blair. He will go on from there to Poland, Russia and finally Evian in France at the weekend for the annual summit of the G8 group of nations.
