RTÉ has confirmed that its Washington correspondent Charlie Bird is to be replaced.
Bird will return to his old position as chief news correspondent after just a year of his four-year posting in the United States.
The second part of his documentary series on his time in the US attracted 563,000 viewers on Monday night.
A new Washington correspondent will be chosen internally by RTÉ.
