Hundreds of runners are expected to hit the tarmac in Phoenix Park, Dublin tomorrow for the first ever ‘Mo Running’ 10km event.
Many will be accessorised with real or fake moustaches to mark ‘Movember’ – the November charity event to raise awareness of prostate cancer.
The event starts at 10am. Registration will be open from 8am and will close at 9.50am and participants are urged to arrive early. Traffic around the Phoenix Park is likely to be heavy.
The major sporting event of the weekend – the Ireland v New Zealand rugby clash – will also bring crowds and extra traffic to the capital tomorrow afternoon.
Ballsbridge will also be busy due to the Coach and Bus Show 2010, described by the organisers as Ireland’s largest public transport event. It runs until 5pm tomorrow.
More than 150 exhibitors are at the RDS Simmonscourt Pavilion displaying new coaches, buses and some antique vehicles from the National Transport Museum.
A ‘tourism village’ supported by Fáilte Ireland features at the event for the first time since its inception in 2000.
More than 100 major tourist attractions are exhibiting including the Guinness Storehouse, Fota Island Wildlife Park, Kylemore Abbey and Thomond Park Stadium. Some 1,900 coach and bus operators in the country, as well as tour groups and teachers, are among those targeted.
Show director Gerry Mullins says the show has proven resilient despite difficult trading conditions. “Exhibitors have arrived from the Northern Ireland, Britain, Belgium and Spain. Even during a recession, people will still need buses,” he said.
Down in Dublin's Docklands, the Point Village market returns after it was called off due to bad weather last weekend. Other weekend markets in the capital include the Ha’penny flea market at the Grand Social on Lower Liffey Street, which runs from midday to 5pm tomorrow.
