Bernoldi latest driver linked with Jordan

Brazil's Enrique Bernoldi could be handed a Formula One lifeline by Jordan next season.

Brazil's Enrique Bernoldi could be handed a Formula One lifeline by Jordan next season.

The 24-year-old, who has yet to score a point in 28 grands prix, has been added to the Silverstone-based team's list of potential drivers.

Jordan have Italy's Giancarlo Fisichella and Takuma Sato of Japan already under contract.

But after losing their Stg£15million sponsorship deal with Deutsche Post, team chief Eddie Jordan could be forced for commercial reasons to look elsewhere for a second driver.

Bernoldi, who drove for the under-threat Arrows team last year, would bring in about £8million in personal sponsorship, according to F1 sources.

The Curitiba-born driver, who missed the final five races of last season because of Arrows' cash problems, is backed by energy drink brand Red Bull.

Eddie Irvine has also been talking to Jordan after being released by Jaguar but was looking for a salary not paying for a drive.

British American Racing test driver Anthony Davidson was also strongly linked with the team but he admitted this week that he does not have the sponsorship.
