Damascus - Syria's official press hailed Dr Bashar al-Assad as the "faithful" successor of his father. Al-Ba'ath newspaper, published by the ruling Ba'ath Party, ran a black-framed picture of the late President Assad and two pictures of Dr Bashar receiving condolences.
