London - After Europe, Africa, Asia, the Pacific Ocean and Central America, all they have to do now is cross the Atlantic. Mr Brian Jones and Mr Bertrand Piccard were last night close to becoming the first to encircle the globe in a balloon.

The crew of Breitling-Orbiter 3 yesterday passed over the Dominican Republic and was expecting, after travelling about 35,000 km, to reach a jetstream today which will propel them over the world's second biggest ocean. The crew aims to reach the finishing line at 9.27 degrees west, over Morocco or Mauritania, at about 9 p.m. tomorrow.
