The Attorney General has taken a High Court challenge to criminal contempt proceedings brought against him by District Judge James Paul McDonnell.
The contempt claim arose when the Attorney, following the District Judge's decision not to make a recommendation under the AG's legal aid scheme in an extradition case, sent a letter to the President of the District Court stating the scheme did apply to District Court extradition proceedings.
The dispute has its roots in an extradition hearing before Judge McDonnell in December 1998.
