The managing director of a Dublin financial company who is accused of sexually assaulting a neighbour's daughter has been refused the return of his passport for business trips. The passport was surrendered as part of bail conditions. The 41-year-old south-side father of five faces 13 charges of sexual assault and two of indecent assault against the girl from 1988, when she was 12, to 1992.
Mr Liam Guidrea said the businessman needed his passport to represent a trade association at an international conference in Brussels and also had to make a presentation in Iceland. Det Garda Val Smith told Dublin District Court he believed the defendant would not stand trial if his passport was returned. Judge Desmond Hogan said he would not alter bail conditions set by another judge and refused restoration of the passport. He also extended time for service of the book of evidence.
