An Irish gangland criminal arrested in Amsterdam on firearms offences is to face a number of new charges relating to carrying a false passport and driver’s licence, writes Conor Lally, Crime Correspondent and Isabel Conway in Amsterdam

Peter ‘‘Fatso’’ Mitchell (40) who is originally from Summerhill in Dublin’s north inner city, has been remanded in custody in Amsterdam to appear again before an examining judge on August 3rd.

A former member of John Gilligan’s drugs gang, he was arrested in the Dutch capital on June 25th in an operation involving undercover Dutch police and Britain’s serious organised crime agency.

Mitchell was carrying €8,500 cash in his pocket when arrested, a spokesman for Amsterdam Public Prosecutors office yesterday told The Irish Times.
