A warrant was issued yesterday for the arrest of a man said to be the victim of a kidnapping who failed to turn up to give evidence in court. The trial of the Brixton prison escaper Nessan Quinlivan and two other men on kidnap charges at the Special Criminal Court had to be adjourned.

Quinlivan (31), of Knockalisheen Avenue, Ballynanty Beg, Limerick, pleaded not guilty to falsely imprisoning Mr Michael Lyons at his home at Greenhills Road, Garryowen, Limerick, on August 25th last year.

The other defendants, Mr John Ryan (30), of Downey Avenue, Killalee, Limerick, and Mr Joseph Shanahan (45), of Athlunkard Street, Limerick, pleaded not guilty to falsely imprisoning Mr Lyons at New Road, Killeely, Co Limerick, on the same date.

The court issued a warrant for the arrest of Mr Lyons and remanded the three men until next Tuesday.
