Some 20 people are feared to have drowned in Pakistan when a passenger van fell into a canal in the southern Punjab province.

Around 25 or 26 passengers were in the van when it tipped into the Sidhnai-Mailsi link canal which is some thirty feet deep. The van is reported to have fallen into a deep canal and only four people, including a child survived.

A doctor at a hospital in Mailsi said the driver of the wagon survived by jumping out of the vehicle before it fell into the canal.

"So far only one body of a child has arrived at the hospital," he said.
