Army bomb disposal experts made safe a viable explosive device in north Dublin last night.

Army bomb disposal experts made safe a viable explosive device in north Dublin last night.

The device was discovered in a stolen car outside a house at Marigold Court in Darndale at around 7pm.

A man was arrested and is being detained at Coolock Garda station under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

A number of houses in the area were evacuated and the all clear was given at 8.50pm.

A Defence Forces spokesman said the device "did contain explosive content".

The spokesman said the remains of the device would be handed over to gardaí for examination.
